About the IITs

The Indian Institute of or fondly called the IITs are the premier institutions for anyone aiming high in the science and engineering career. Known to have one of the best faculties and a high standard of teaching around the world, the IITs have made their mark on the world map. The admissions to the Undergraduate Programmes at these institutions for all Indian and Foreign nationals are made through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) conducted by the IITs every year.

The admissions for the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi and the Indian School of Mines University, Dhanbad, are also made through the JEE. All the IITs and other institutions are known for providing quality education in science and technology and for research in important areas. The environment at these institutions is highly conducive for-

  • building a solid foundation of knowledge,

  • development of personality, confidence building, self-discipline, pursuit of excellence and

  • enhancement of creativity, motivation and drive.

  • All of the above help to prepare the students admitted to these institutions for successful professional and social lives. Today, alumni of the IITs occupy key positions in industry and academia in India and abroad.

Each institute has well-equipped modern laboratories, state-of-the-art computer network, and well stocked technical library. Teaching methods rely on direct personal contact between the teachers and the students, and the use of traditional and modern instructional techniques. Students live in a pleasant and intellectually stimulating environment with people having similar goals and aspirations, which is an exciting and unique experience.

Credit-based academic programmes offer flexibility to students to progress at their own pace. A minimum level of performance is necessary for satisfactory progress. The medium of instruction is English. These institutions offer courses leading to Bachelor’s degree in a number of engineering, technological, and scientific disciplines.

    IIT-JEE Exam Format

The question pattern of the IIT-JEE exams as many is tough but in reality it is not. It is just that it is conceptual based and requires a lot of knowledge of the absolute basics and application of them in a question.

The Exam is of 6 hours with two papers. Both papers consist of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in a serial order. Both papers have a gap of 2 hours between them and each paper is of 3 hours duration. While the pattern of the exam for IIT-JEE question changes regularly, the basic level of questions remains the same. For the past few years, IIT is being conducted as an MCQ exam but the next year might have Subjective questions. So it completely depends.

The answer sheet for the JEE paper looks something close to the image below-

The bubbles in the ORS sheet are to be filled with HB pencil only. You can practice taking these exams from some Engineering institute as it is very important to be acclimatised to the format or a lot of time will be wasted and you will loose valuable time in the exam due to confusion.

Nothing except water bottles and pen, pencil, eraser and sharpener is allowed in the exam center. You must be reporting at the exam center 30 minutes before the exam but preferably reaching the exam center 45 minutes before the exam is better.
